Hey TC! As we start to come off the craziness of Cherryfest, take a deep breathe, we made it through. We rode all the rides, ate a few to many elephant ears, watched the fireworks and attended the parades. We were living our best life. And now back to our regular scheduled programming; 8PM dips in the lake, coffee on our favorite patios, a glass of wine while tunes of the live band is playing in the background. And don’t forget that post dinner stroll to the Dairy Lodge for a cool ice cream as temps start to get into the 90’s this week.
Here are 5 things we’re paying attention to this week!
1. 🎸 The concert of the summer is Monday
St. Vincent Live with Orchestra at Interlochen's Kresge Auditorium. Monday, July 20, 7:30pm. Conducted by Jules Buckley with special guest Arooj Aftab.
If you see one show this summer, this is it. Kresge under the pines at dusk is already one of the best concert venues in the Midwest. Add St. Vincent with a full orchestra and it's going to be one of those nights you talk about for years. Tickets are still available but they won't be for long. interlochen.org
2. 🍒 U-Pick cherries are peaking right now
The window is short. Go this week.
Third Coast Fruit Co. — 555 Wilson Rd, TC Rennie Orchards — 11221 Monroe Rd, Williamsburg Cherry Connection — 12414 Center Rd, TC
Bring a bucket. Pick more than you think you need. Freeze what you don't eat. In January when it's 12 degrees and you pull out a bag of cherries you picked yourself in July, you'll feel like a genius.
3. 🎵 A classical happy hour at The Little Fleet
IPR presents Classical Happy Hour: Archipelago Project — Wednesday, July 15 at 5:30pm at The Little Fleet.
Classical music. At The Little Fleet. On a Wednesday evening. With food trucks. This is the kind of thing that could only happen in TC. Free.
4. 🎬 Silent film with live organ at the Music House
Mary Pickford's "Suds" with Dave Calendine on live theater organ — Friday, July 17, 7pm at the Music House Museum in Williamsburg.
A 1920 silent comedy played to a live organ in a museum full of antique instruments. This is the most Traverse City date night that exists. If you've never been to the Music House, this is your reason.
5. 🚗 Road trip: Charlevoix Venetian Festival starts Saturday
July 18–25. Three Dog Night. Smash Mouth. Fireworks. The famous Venetian boat parade. Charlevoix is an hour north and the Venetian Festival is one of the best events in Northern Michigan.
We have some new shops opening in town, new art exhibitions to check out & snagging a piece of edible art. Pick your favorite this week!
