Hey, happy Tuesday.
This is the week summer goes full throttle. The Leland Wine & Food Festival takes over the harbor on Saturday. The M22 Challenge sends athletes running up sand dunes, biking through Glen Arbor, and paddling across Little Glen Lake. Seismoto turns one. A new art gallery opens on Front Street. And if you walk past the Grocer's Daughter gelato shop in Empire this week, ask about the asparagus ice cream. Trust us.
Here's your week.

This week in TC (June 10–14)
⚾ Pit Spitters at Turtle Creek Stadium | All week
The Spitters are home this week. Friday is Fireworks Friday, the first of the summer. Saturday is Spit-tacular Saturday with giveaways and entertainment. Sunday is Family Sunday with pre-game catch on the field, autographs, and kids run the bases after the game. First 250 kids eat free. First pitch 7:05pm weeknights, 5:05pm Sundays.
🍷 Leland Wine & Food Festival | Saturday, June 13, 12–6pm | Leland Harbor
The big one for Leelanau wine lovers. Twelve Leelanau Peninsula wineries and Stormcloud Brewery set up at the harbor with tastings, live music, and food from eight local vendors, all with views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands. General admission is $35 in advance ($45 at the gate) and includes a commemorative glass and two tasting tokens. Additional tokens are $3.50 each. Pro tip: buy the 10-token upgrade for $30 because two tokens isn't going to cut it. Come-and-go re-entry wristbands mean you can wander into Fishtown, hit the beach, browse the shops, and come back for more. All proceeds support Leland's beautification, fireworks, and holiday lights. Tickets at mynorthtickets.com.
🏃🚴🛶 M22 Challenge | Saturday, June 13 | Sleeping Bear Dunes
The 18th annual M22 Challenge is Northern Michigan's premier run-bike-paddle triathlon, set against the backdrop of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, voted the "Most Beautiful Place in America." Athletes run 2.5 miles including a 100-yard dune climb, bike 17 scenic miles through Glen Arbor and up to Inspiration Point, then paddle 2.5 miles across Little Glen Lake. It's already sold out, but if you're in the area, the spectator scene at the dune climb and the finish line is worth the drive.
🏄 Surf Rescue Training with Sleeping Bear Surf + Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project | Friday
This one could save a life. Sleeping Bear Surf is partnering with the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project for a surf rescue training clinic at their shop in Empire. The power of the Great Lakes is seriously underestimated by visitors and locals alike, and drowning incidents continue to rise. This training covers rip current awareness, surf rescue techniques, and how to keep yourself and the people around you safe in open water. Head over to Sleeping Bear Surf for more information: Sleeping Bear Surf
🎨 Art of the Vineyard Opening Reception | Thursday, June 11, 5–6pm | Old Art Building, Leland

🍦 Asparagus ice cream at Grocer's Daughter. The gelato shop in Empire uses local and seasonal ingredients, which means the flavors rotate constantly. When asparagus season hits, they do an asparagus gelato that sounds weird and tastes incredible. If it's on the board, order it. Don't ask questions.
🏠 Sleep above the chocolate shop. Grocer's Daughter has two apartments above the gelato shop that rent through Airbnb. One is called "Dark Chocolate." Stay the night, walk downstairs for gelato in the morning, and you're five minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes.
🍞 Ask for the pretzel bread at the Village Cheese Shanty. You probably already know this. But if your out-of-town friends don't, make sure they do. Fishtown, Leland, open daily through October.
🍷 The back patio at Bonobo. Most people sit inside or on the front patio. Walk through to the back. The view of East Bay from up there is one of the best kept secrets on Old Mission.

Bringing you interesting stories from in and around this amazing state!

🛶 Meet the Gen Z Paddlers Proving Expeditions Aren't Dead | Paddling Magazine
Big paddling expeditions have a reputation of being for the rich, the retired, or the career adventurers. And Gen Z has a reputation for being glued to a screen. This piece profiles a handful of young paddlers who are proving both of those assumptions wrong, charting multi-day, long-distance expeditions that would make the old guard proud. If you've ever paddled the Boardman and wondered what it would feel like to just keep going, this is the read that'll make you start planning something bigger. Read it →
